Worlds Ugliest Dog

Rascal weighs about seven pounds and is eight years old. His breed is a Chinese Crested and that type of dog is naturally hairless. They do have what is called a Mohawk on his head. Rascal has a bit of hair at the end of his tail and a bit at the tips of his paws. Rascal is the world’s ugliest dog.

The poor thing looks like he is cross-eyed and can not close his mouth because his tongue sticks out. All over his body you are able to see his warts and freckles. He has no teeth and he does look like his head is crooked.  He is owned by Dane Andrew of California. He did win the coveted award in the ring of champions as the ugliest dog in the world.

Rascal comes from a line of the world’s ugliest dog as his mom, grandmother and grandfather also held the title o f the worlds’ ugliest dog. Rascal’s grandfather Chi Chi is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for winning that title.

Chi Chi has won the title of the world’s ugliest dog seven times.  The people that have Rascal think he is sweet and lovable. They try to ignore some of the ugly names he is called such as hairless potter and space alien. Even Jay Leno had him on this show; he has appeared in three horror shows and several television programs. Because Rascal is the world’s ugliest dog, he is now starring in his own comic strip.

The word’s ugliest dog contest is always held in Petaluma, California. Many dogs enter that are from all over the United States and they now allow dogs from all over the world compete. Along with a thousand dollars, the world’s ugliest dog takes home the title. They also will appear on different television shows and get world wide fame.

Even the television program Animal Planet has gotten in on the hoopla and sponsors the even so they can get it on their program. The owners of the world’s ugliest dog must produce papers that they have had the dogs checked by a veterinarian. They must be healthy and pose no diseases.
The Sonoma County Humane Society has set out to educate the people of taking care of animals and are there if one wants to adopt a dog. They will take pictures and videos of the world’s ugliest dogs and put them YouTube for showing just after the contest is finished. The world’s ugliest dog in two thousand and nine is a boxer mix named Pabst.

This contest has been going on for about two twenty years and is still going strong. Every year more and more dogs are entered in the contest. A large majority of the dogs entered in the contest are of the breed Chinese Crested, or a mix of it. These dogs resemble a Chihuahua.
